On Good Friday we will have a special service in the Jeruzalemkerk at 20:00. Over the last couple of years we have run what is called a Tenebrae service. During the Tenebrae service we reflect on the suffering of Jesus through prayer, Scripture and worship.

Tenebrae is the Latin word for darkness, and in a Tenebrae service we start with seven lit candles and as we go through the liturgy, we extinguish the candles one-by-one, until there is only darkness. Then we end with Communion.

The format of a Tenebrae service is reflective and more liturgical than what we are used to. It invites you to consider with a deep reverence what the Lord has done on the Cross and what it means for us.
