Service Practice | Part 1 | Introduction

This message introduces our focus for the month of October: the Service Practice. For the last three years we have been discussing what discipleship to Jesus looks like in everyday life, working with the organisation Practicing the Way.
Practicing the Way has put together some great teaching materials that help us to grow in being with Jesus, becoming like Jesus and doing what Jesus did. This service practice is one of 9 practices that together present a complete picture of what habits and rhythms we can engage in as disciples of Jesus.
Service, simply put: love in action, is very visible in the life of Jesus. When Jesus looked at the crowd, He was moved with compassion, and this compassion moved Him into action.
How are we moved with compassion? Do we dare to come close to suffering and are we able to serve a need?
If the Kingdom is for the poor, the oppressed, the anxious and those who mourn
And our King is a Man of Sorrows, this means, as apprentices of Jesus and
ambassadors of the Kingdom, we cannot stay at a safe distance.
