Scripture

John 10:7-15

Summary

The Big Idea:

AI has been developed and used in such a way that it is slowly making its way into the social fabric of our lives and society. Technology has a way of slowly isolating us, but we were created for intimate connection.

Bible text:

I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me.

AI-companions are a new phenomenon quickly gaining ground, but it leaves people with a deeper sense of loneliness than before. What are these developments going to do to us long term?

As a church community, we need to be prepared to approach this with love and compassion.

Our humanness is a unique quality assigned by God. Technology can only simulate awareness, emotion, creativity and connection but it is artificial. Humans were created in the image of God. Only humans possess the ability to feel, be aware, be present, be considerate and connected.

True companionship:

Jesus is the best companion you could ever imagine and He is 100% real.

He completely knows you, He completely gets you, He completely wants the best for you and He is always available for you.

Church Community:

But perhaps the biggest calling of the Church of the 21st Century is actually to be a deeply connected community where everyone can belong and come into authentic and fulfilling relationship with others and with Jesus?

Human identity

But our identity as humans does not lie in our capacity to perform. It lies in our relationship to the Creator. We are known by God and loved by God.
